Código de avería P0123: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code, which means that it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. Although generic, the specific repair steps may vary depending on make/model. The O2 sensor produces a voltage based on oxygen content in the exhaust. The voltage varies between .1 and .9 Volts, .1 indicating lean and .9 indicating rich.   The ECM constantly monitors this voltage while in closed loop to determine how much fuel to inject. If the ECM determines that the O2 sensor voltage was too low (less than .4 Volts) for too long (for more than 20 seconds (time varies with model)), this code is set.

Brand of vehicles may include but are not limited to Ford, Dodge, Saturn, Nissan, Subaru, Honda, etc. Although generic, the specific repair steps may vary depending on make/model/engine. A P012E code indicates some sort of intermittent or erratic malfunction within the Turbo/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Sensor (TCIP) circuit. The turbo/supercharger are responsible for increasing "volumetric efficiency" (amount of air) within the combustion chamber by creating pressure within the intake system.   Generally speaking Turbochargers are exhaust driven and Superchargers are belt driven. The inlet of the turbo/supercharger is where they get their filtered air from the air filter. The inlet sensor works with the ECM (Electronic Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module) in order to monitor and regulate intake pressure. The "(Downstream of throttle valve)" indicates what specific inlet sensor has the malfunction and it’s location. The pressure sensor may also incorporate a temperature sensor into it. This trouble code is closely related to P012A, P012B, P012C, and P012D.

Although generic, the specific repair steps may vary depending on make/model. A stored code P0127 means that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an input signal from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor circuit which is indicative of the temperature or circuit voltage being too high.   The IAT sensor input and the mass airflow (MAF) sensor input signals are used by the PCM to calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing. Sustaining an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1 is vital to engine performance and fuel efficiency; therefore the input of the IAT sensor is critical. The IAT sensor is typically inserted into the air inlet pipe or air cleaner box but it may also be threaded directly into the intake manifold. The IAT sensor may also be integrated into the MAF sensor housing. Regardless of design, it must be positioned so that (with the engine running) ambient air, drawn into the intake manifold through the throttle body, can continuously and consistently flow across it. The IAT sensor is normally a two-wire thermistor sensor. As varying degrees of air flow across the cold wire element, sensor resistance varies according to temperature. In other words, the more air that flows across the cold-wire element, the lower the degree of temperature and resistance it provides. OBD II equipped vehicles generally use a reference voltage (five-volts is normal) and a ground signal with the IAT sensor completing the circuit. The varying degrees of resistance in the IAT sensor element create voltage fluctuations in the input circuit. These fluctuations are recognized by the PCM as variations in intake air temperature. If the PCM detects a level of voltage from the IAT sensor that is higher than the maximum allowable limit, a code P0127 will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may be illuminated.

In my own personal experience, I have found that a stored P0124 code means that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an intermittent malfunction in the circuit for the "A" throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit.   The TPS is typically a potentiometer type sensor that completes a five-volt reference circuit. The TPS is mechanically actuated using an extension of the throttle plate shaft or a specially designed tab on the sensor. As the throttle is opened and closed, contacts in the sensor are dragged across a circuit board, varying sensor resistance. As sensor resistance is changed, TPS circuit voltage fluctuates. The PCM recognizes these fluctuations as varying degrees of throttle plate actuation. The PCM uses input voltage signals from the TPS to calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing. It also uses TPS input data to monitor intake air flow, exhaust oxygen content, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) function, and engine load percentage. If the PCM detects a certain number of intermittent or erratic signals from the TPS, over a set period of time, and under a programmed set of circumstances, a code P0124 will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may be illuminated.
